Submersio has always been a troubled city. Initially it was founded in what looked like a sturdy grassy plain and for a couple centuries that would seem to be true. After the major trading road went through it, the city benefited from the wealth entering the city. But then a particularly rainy spring revealed the flimsiness of the foundations. Indeed large parts of the city now sink into the mud, the wetlands engulfed the city like the jaws of a trap.

Yet its people would not give up so easily. While some would build another town as a refuge called Vetorefug, others were too stubborn to move. The people of the Cradlelands also saw potential in a different way. Such muddy conditions would surely bog down invaders. Indeed many times Submersio would fall to invasion before its shell stalled its foes. As such, the city would never be abandoned, for as long as foes of humanity exist, Submersio would fall over and over.
