If there was ever a city as great as it was terrible, heroic as it was villainous, it would be Primus. So named as it was the first city of humanity, at its peak, the Imperium that was based in Primus was one of the largest empires in the world, surpassing even Yanneros and the Northern Union, stretching from Murex to parts of the Triad. Even the Cities of Secundus became willing vassals. From a petty kingdom, to a republic to an imperium, the story of Primus is one of many ups and downs, joys and sorrows. It held a strong bond with the Godshards, particularly those of the Sacerdozio.
There were times Primus did a lot of good in the world. They stood their ground against Maelim and Horrorlim. They aided the Realm of the Golden Wood during Ruth's time. Trade flourished, science and learning were highly valued. The Benelim, while they disagreed with their beliefs at times, still found themselves respecting their ingenuity and drive. From its military to its architecture to its entertainment, for centuries Primus seemingly represented humanity at its best. A bastion of progress like Yanneros in the east. It was even said that Primus was the bedrock of humanity, keeping it from fracturing into pieces, divided by its enemies. The bond with the Godshards was never stronger, and they became beloved heroes alongside the greatest of their commanders.
Primus' downfall came from several things. The Imperium grew too big, too arrogant. Worst of all, was a creed born from collective trauma; Mortal Realm for Mortals. This mindset came from the many wars and the worst defeats in Primus' history. It was believed that true cause of suffering, the origin point for stuff like the Daemon Wars, the Second Novalim War and the Twisted War was all the same. Immortal beings from the heavens or the underworld, ravaging and conquering a plane that was not their own.
While other immortal beings and their works, the other Gods and the Benelim respectively, seemingly abandoned them time and time again! While judging them for their methods at the same time. Sometimes peace and unity would prevail over this, such as during the time of Ruth the Uniter, but like a disease this mindset slowly poisoned Primus. They started believing themselves better than the Gods, and this piety made everything worse. They started viewing themselves as bringers of light and purity, to the point where they started calling themselves Imperium Solis.
This would come to ahead two centuries before the present. With nowhere else to go, and all the Maelim tribes either killed or fled beyond their reach, the Imperium decided to declare war on all other works of immortals! The Imperial Terror began, where the legions of Primus. as well as their allies in Secundus attacked several Benelim realms. The Realm of the Golden Wood was hit hardest, they were devastated. The Benelim were arrogant in their own right, and they underestimated the power of gunpowder.
Despite early successes though, the legions lost momentum, the Murexens in their legions, from their eponymous kingdom turned province, deserted in protest, for their bond with the Benelim was much greater than others. As did their allies in Secundus. The Benelim rallied and the legions fled across the mountains in defeat. After the survivors attacked their own province of Murex as revenge for abandoning them, the Imperium broke apart. Soon a coalition was formed between the Benelim realms and the post-Imperial humans.
Primus was the only city left, it was the heart of this evil mindset and they would not fall so easily. Their dictator, Brutus had somehow stolen some angylic tomes, and the terrifying host of the arch-angyl Samael was unleashed on the coalition forces. Yet it would be these same angyls that would spell doom for Primus. The Godshard Lazarus and his allies used angylic tomes of their own to summon the arch-angyl Michael and his forces.
After a close duel, Michael prevailed and to the surprise of everyone, both hosts turned on Primus. Lazarus couldn't dispel them before every last soul of Primus, from its dictator Brutus to the smallest orphan was slaughtered. Primus was no more. No one dared to rebuild the city this time for it was viewed as cursed ground. Every now and then, a politician or Godshard expresses interest in rebuilding the city, but it is never taken seriously. There is too much trauma, too much evil, too much delusion to ever rebuild that city on good faith. It remains abandoned by the time of Six Strangers.
The legacy of Primus is one of caution. Even the greatest of humanities realms can get corrupted, even the best of humanity can loose their way. Despite what the creed says, perhaps not all monsters come from other dimensions...
