Magical Powers
All Godshards are capable of magical spells of considerable power. The variety and nature of the spells vary wildly, usually only bound by the limitations of the Shard, as well as the training and imagination of the user.
Yet not all spells can be casted easily, even if the Godshard is quite powerful. True life cannot be granted by any known spell, only animus. Spells that alter the body or soul are notoriously fickle and dangerous.
Spells must be spoken to cast, which usually means orally although casting spells via sign language is possible. Too many spells cast at once can put too much strain on the Shard and conversely, not casting spells enough can fry the soul.
Magical Leanings
Many Godshards have what are called magical leanings, preferences to certain kinds of spells and abilities. Some even find an affinity with several although this usually comes at the cost of both. It believed that due to Omnitus being a God of near omnipotent power, many of these Shards possess different aspects of his being, manifesting as the leanings.
The leanings are broad and vast and some spells can overlap between categories or be outside of them altogether. Another thing to note is the more powerful the Shard, the more advanced and powerful the kind of spells the user can cast.
Many early Godshards did not have a magical leaning due to spellcraft being largely in its infancy and many spells undiscovered. Adam and Elias for example were generalists as a result. Ruth was also a generalist due to how she learned to cast spells differently.
Here is an incomplete list of magical leanings along with notable Godshards who have them:
Elemental - Avella Avalon, Mikel
Alchemy - Etheros
Transmutation - Etheros
Shapeshifting - Lazarus, Ember, Miriam
Stealth - The Rogue Godshard, Aaron
Botany - Haley
Abjuration - Mikel, Samuel
Animation - Abel
Perception - Magdaline
Healing- Jolene, Joan, Annabelle
Metallurgy - Kai, Mikel
Magnetism - Isaiah
Tempature - Isaiah
Passive Abilities
Passive Abilities are magical powers that do not need to be cast, they are naturally part of the Shard's demeanor and essence. These abilities are often greater than the some of their parts and provide a counterbalance for the lesser powerful Shards. Only on very rare occasions does a powerful Shard also have a potent passive ability too.
Here is an incomplete list of passive abilities along with notable Godshards who had them:
Charisma - Sheba, Abel, David
Foresight - Salvatore, The Voice of Abel, Deborah, Svetlanna
Empath - Deborah
Enhanced Speed - Deborah
Enhanced Strength
Enhanced Stamina
Other Types of Magic
Godshards are not the only beings in the Godshards universe who can cast spells or have magical abilities in this vein. Many Gods, daemons and angyls also possess considerable magical power that they can bestow on mortal followers should they choose.
Angyls have complex magical rites and incantations that can be used to summon them from the heavens, either to enter a mortal host as vessel or to bring a host of them to the Mortal Realm. The Godshards of the Seerhood use this kind of magic in combination with their own.
The Formless Sentinels are guardians of the forest who can shapeshift into a variety of land creatures, and they get their power from Venatus, the Hunter God. The Benedanti are similar guardians of the harvest under the patronage of Amare, the Goddess of Fertility and Healing. They have the ability to astral-project to deal with evil spirits.
Tempestia, the Goddess of Chaos and Storms bestowed the gift of storm magic on the eldest of the harpies as reward for their centuries of spreading discord in Her name. The Twisted Gods and their servants are capable of mutating and warping the landscape as well as flora and fauna.
Daemons have their own magic which is largely unknown to all other races. All that is known is their spells and powers deal with the soul or essence, altering or taking it to their own evil ends.
